Finally visited No Other Meaning last week and other than the highly raved rainbow cake, the mains were honestly not to my liking at all.
I had Beer Battered Fish & Chips (SGD12.90) and the boy had The Ultimate NOM Burger (SGD13.90). The fish tasted overcooked with a tinge of bitter taste but I’d think it comes from the beer hence ain’t too particular about it. What made me sad was that the chilli sauce tasted weird. Like chilli sauce could ever go wrong, it went wrong in every way. Perhaps it’s home-made but really, I dislike it. The burger bread was tough and difficult to chew, and the bacon was soggy. Would definitely prefer it crisp. We also had the Mushroom Soup (SGD3.90) which was the only dish I love but having said that, it doesn’t taste like mushroom soup at all. The only reason I like it is because it’s really milky so to those who doesn’t like milk, do give it a miss.
Desserts we wanted to have the churros but it wasn’t available thus Oreo Rainbow Cake (SGD7.90) was all we had; initially wanted to try the Salted Caramel one but it wasn’t ready for the day. This cake definitely beat the one I had at Dean & Deluca hands down. It was soft and most importantly, there wasn’t a strong colouring taste. The cream might be a little too sweet but that’s not a problem for me. Will gladly head down for another slice again.
We went on a Thursday afternoon and there weren’t many people. After that it rained so we sat till the rain stopped. It’s a place for high-tea in my opinion as the mains were really bad and the desserts were the highlight. Also, if you were to order tea, it’s refillable hence a good place for catching up with friends. Last but not least, NOM doesn’t separately charge GST and service charge i.e. what you see is what you pay, thumbs up for that!
